The Joy of the Holy Gospel according to Pope Francis (Mt 21, 23-27)
Received
What authority does Jesus have? It is the Lord's style, that "lordship"—let's say—with which the Lord acted, taught, healed, and listened. This style of the Lord—which is something that comes from within—what does it show? Coherence. Jesus had authority because he was coherent between what he taught and what he did, that is, how he lived. This coherence is what gives the expression of a person who has authority: "This one has authority, because He/She is coherent," that is, they bear witness. Authority manifests itself in this: coherence and witness. (Pope Francis, Homily in the Chapel of the Casa Santa Marta, January 14, 2020)
